Even the best systems with high-end gear rely on a little know-how to reach their full potential. Here’s some suggestions to improve your setup with simple tips and tricks that can yield noticeable results.
Getting enough volume without distortion
- Provide strong signals to SoundCaster.
- If available, use dynamic level control features (e.g., limiting, compression) on the audio source to limit the maximum input levels to SoundCaster.
- On SoundCaster, adjust input levels and/or Master level to ensure individual and master level meters stay below the clipping region.
Getting the most natural sound (mixing, choosing IEMs, etc.)
- If available, use equalization features on the audio source to compensate for any frequencies lost through earphones, etc…
Hearing what’s most important to you
- On SoundCaster, disable unused inputs to eliminate them from all mixes.
- On Performer or Director, deactivate any unwanted instruments from individual mixes.
- On Performer or Director, lower the levels of any less-important instruments, per each musician’s preference.
- On Performer or Director, use panning to “move” each instrument left or right in the mix to allow the musicians to distinguish the instruments from each other.
